दुनिया में जो भी ज्ञान और विज्ञान है, उन सभी का लक्ष्य मानव और मानव है।

मनुष्य सदा से भविष्य को जानने के लिए प्रयत्नशील रहा है। उसके दिमाग में अज्ञात भविष्य के प्रति बराबर आशंका बनी रहती है। वह यह सोचता है कि मैं जो वर्तमान में कार्य कर रहा हूं, और जिस पर अपने सारे जीवन का श्रम, बुद्धि और धन लगा रहा हूं, कहीं ऐसा न हो जाए कि भविष्य में मैं अपने प्रयत्नों में सफल न हो सक और ऐसा सोच-सोचकर वह एक अज्ञात आशंका से डरा-डरा सा रहता है। 

कभी-कभी ईश्वर पर आश्चर्य और इसके ठीक बाद उसकी महानता के सामने मेरा सिर श्रद्धा से झुक जाता है कि वह कितना कुशल कारीगर है, जिसने भविष्य की सैकड़ों, लाखों घटनाओं को टेढ़ी-मेढ़ी लकीरों के माध्यम से मनुष्य के हाथों में अंकित कर दिया है, और श्रद्धा होती है उन ऋषियों पर जिन्होंने अपनी तपस्या और दिव्य दृष्टि के माध्यम से इन रेखाओं के रहस्य को समझा है, और आने वाली पीढ़ियों के लिए इस ज्ञान को सुलभ किया है। 

हाथ का अध्ययन करने के लिए कई तथ्य ध्यान में रहने आवश्यक है। सबसे पहली बात तो यह है कि किसी भी व्यक्ति के हाथ की केवल एक रेखा देखकर ही उस पर अपना विचार दृढ़ नहीं बना देना चाहिए। क्योंकि केवल एक रेखा ही उससे सम्बंधित तथ्य को स्पष्ट नहीं कर सकती, अपितु उसकी सहायक रेखाएं भी उस तथ को स्पष्ट करने में सहायक होती हैं। जिस प्रकार रेल के एक इंजन में सैकड़ों छोटे- कल-पुर्जे होते हैं और उन सभी कल-पुर्जों का अपने स्थान पर महत्त्व होता है !

यदि उन पुर्जों में से एक भी पूर्जा रुक जाए तो एक प्रकार से पूरा इंजन ही रुक जाएग, ठीक यही स्थिति हाथ में रेखाओं की है। यदि रेखाओं का महत्त्व न सम परिणाम में भयंकर गलती होने की संभावना हो जाती है। अतः एक कुशल विशेषज्ञ को चाहिए कि वह हथेली पर पाई जाने वाली प्रत्येक रेखा को अपनी ओझल न होने दे, अपित छोटी से छोटी रेखा को उतना ही महत्त्व दे जितना कि और प्रमुख रेखा का महत्त्व होता है। 

जो म ईश्वर ने हाथ में जो रेखाएं अंकित की हैं, वे बहुत सोच-समझकर अंकित की हैं, उनका हाथ में पाई जाने वाली प्रत्येक रेखा का अपना महत्त्व है और किसी भी एक रेखा स्पष्ट नहीं होती है। तो सम्बन्ध दूसरी रेखा से होता है। यदि हम एक रेखा को ध्यान में रखकर अपना नि सुना दें तो उसमें गलती होने की संभावना हो जाती है, इसलिए प्रमुख रेखा एवं उसई स्पष्ट किया जा सकता सहायक रेखाओं का भली भांति अध्ययन करना चाहिए और उसके बाद ही उस तथ्य को मेरे सामने सम्बन्धित भविष्य-कथन स्पष्ट करना चाहिए। कई लोगों की यह सहज जिज्ञासा होती। फिर उससे भविष्यफ कि दाहिने हाथ को महत्त्व देना चाहिए अथवा बायें हाथ को ? अलग-अलग लोगों के कि विद्वानों के अनुसा इस सम्बन्ध में अलग-अलग मत है। कुछ लोग दाहिने हाथ को ही महत्त्व देते हैं। उनके अगले दस वर्षों का दृष्टि में बायें हाथ का कोई महत्त्व नहीं है, जबकि कुछ लोग हायें हाथ को ही प्रधान देते हैं। उनका कहना है कि दाहिना हाथ सक्रिय होने के कारण उसमें बहुत जल्दी-जद हस्तरेखा का पूर्ण। रेखाएं बदल जाती हैं, जबकि बायें हाथ में रेखाएं ज्यादा समय तक टिकी रहती हैं। कुछ है कि हाथ की लोगों का यह भी मत है कि दोनों ही हाथों का बराबर अध्ययन करना चाहिए, परन विद्यमान रहती है मैं ऐसा समझता हूं कि ये सभी मत एक प्रकार से अपूर्ण हैं। इन विद्वानों ने जो का संकेत देती ह निर्धारित किये हैं, वे केवल सुनी-सुनाई बातों पर अथवा अपने अधकचरे ज्ञान के आधार चिन्ह अवश्य पर ही स्थिर किये हैं। वास्तव में इस सम्बन्ध में 'हस्तरेखा-संजीवनी' नामक ग्रन्थ बनना विशेष प्रामाणिक विवरण मिलता है।
